The news may be fake, but the consequences can be all too real. Former national news correspondent and Maine newspaper editor Chet Lunner will explore the history of misinformation and its impacts around the globe, examine the difference between traditional journalism and social media, and suggest some solutions that concerned citizens may want to employ. What do we mean by fake news? How do you spot It, reduce it, fix it? What role can classroom teachers play? What business models are likely to replace the traditional community newspaper?

This talk is presented in conjunction with the Camden Conference, and is brought to the community through a partnership between the Maine Humanities Council, Margaret Chase Smith Foundation, and the library.
