Saturday Afternoon Concert
Juan Condori will play Celtic, Bolivian, Venezuelan and Argentinian plus new compositions for guitar from US and Latino America and France.
A native of La Paz, Bolivia, Condori studied guitar and cello at the conservatory of music in La Paz. He was a member of the Bolivian National Orchestra and toured South America with a Bolivian youth orchestra. He met members of the Portland String Quartet in Caracas, Venezuela and was invited to study with them in Portland, Maine. Juan came to the U.S. in 1978 and completed his Bachelors of Music in cello performance in 1985. After several years performing and touring with Mexican orchestras he returned to the U.S.. Juan completed his Masters in cello performance at Syracuse University in 1988 under a fellowship with the Syracuse Symphony. He currently lives in Bucksport. He performs with Village to Village, a new world music duo with violinist Ellie May Shufro. Juan enjoys teaching cello and guitar privately. Co-sponsored with Castine Arts Association.
