The above readings are sourced from Freedom House and Human Rights Watch, well known and respected organizations focused on democracy and human rights.  They would be considered centrist/progressive by many.  While both Republicans and Democrats have long supported democracy and human rights as foreign policy goals, there are differences of degree and emphasis.  For a more centrist/conservative view try the reading below:
