CAA Play Reading Group
Join us for the revival of the Castine Arts Association and Witherle Memorial Library play-reading group. We plan to meet once a month through the winter to read plays that we choose as a group. Those who can’t join us in person but wish to be in the audience are welcome to join us via zoom.
The play we have chosen to begin with is called Seminar, written by Theresa Rebeck. Set in present-day New York, Seminar is a bittersweet comedy that follows four young writers — Kate, Martin, Douglas, and Izzy — and their professor, Leonard. Each student has paid Leonard $5,000 for a ten-week writing seminar to be held in Kate’s Upper West Side apartment. As tensions arise and romance falls, they clash over their writing, their relations, and their futures. Seminar opened on Broadway in 2011 to excellent reviews.
You can see a brief selection from the original production of the play, starring Alan Rickman, at the following site: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIVCtBz1Ivo
Audience members are welcome. In person and over Zoom. Request a Zoom link.
