Earth Day Scavenger Hunt Instructions

Welcome to the Earth Day Scavenger Hunt!

Tuesday, April 22 from 10 am to 3 pm

This year’s hunt features Castine landmarks. You can collaborate with your family and friends to figure out the clues.

How to Participate

  1. The “clues” will all be released at 10am on the library website www.witherlelibrary.net.  A printed clue sheet will be available at the library as well.
  2. There will be six clues. Once you’ve figured out a clue, go to the location and take a photo of yourself with the secret item.
  3. Upload your photos using the QR code provided or save them on your phone and bring them to Emerson Hall at 3 pm when we will distribute the prizes.
  4. This year’s prize is a clay pot that you can paint. Please wear something that you can paint in or bring your pot home to paint later.

The clues are below

For each location, take a selfie with the location or object listed evident in your photo.

  1. The number tag of any elm in Castine, to know each one
  2. The entrance to the Adams School native plants garden (west corner of the Adams School playground)
  3. Crocuses in front of UU church, an early sign of Spring, warmth and growth
  4. The dock, busy on land and water for humans and other animals
  5. The granite sculpture at the Wilson Museum, a beautiful place to enjoy the view
  6. Dyce Head Light, where sea, sky, and land meet. Take your photo with the lighthouse in the background.  The lighthouse keeper’s house is a private residence; please respect their privacy.
