Castine Community StoryWalk® Partner Portal

StoryWalk® partners are invited to participate in this unique experience that combines literacy and outdoor fun.  Our partners are the Adams School, the Castine Garden Club, the Wilson Museum and the Town of Castine. Submissions should align with the StoryWalk® project’s mission of promoting literacy, physical activity, and family time.

 Make a Request:

  1. Sign up for the online calendar and check for available months.
  2. Choose a story. Stories should be suitable for the intended StoryWalk® audience, typically young children (ages 4-10 or 4-11 for PK-5 or PK-6 respectively). The maximum number of pages (they can be in a spread depending on the size) is 19.
  3. Make a request by filling out the online form. Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Plan Your StoryWalk®

  1. Purchase two copies of your book (this allows for front and back pages). Photocopies are not permitted under copyright; original books only.
  2. Remove the pages and laminate each page. The library has a large laminator available for your use.
  3. Customize your story by adding prompts to your StoryWalk® panels.
  4. Attach your story pages to the panels. These will be available at the library a few days before your month begins.
  5. Name two volunteers to work with library staff to install the StoryWalk® as close to the first day of your scheduled month as possible.

At the Completion of Your StoryWalk® Month

  1. Name a volunteer to work with library staff to remove your StoryWalk® pages at an agreed upon date a few days before the end of a month.
  2. Work with library staff to receive information from participants from the online feedback form.
  3. Make suggestions to library staff on ways to make the StoryWalk® even better.

Thank you for your partnership and we look forward to working with you!
