Witherle Memorial Library is inviting the community to participate in a survey that will guide the library’s strategic direction over the next five years.
The survey is part of a comprehensive planning process led by the Library’s Board of Trustees and Strategic Planning Committee. Community members are encouraged to share their perspectives on current services, programming, digital resources, partnerships, facility needs, and future priorities.
In addition to gathering feedback from library staff and conducting a comprehensive assessment, the Strategic Planning Committee has also engaged local community partners — including schools, nonprofit organizations, and cultural institutions — to gather their input as part of the planning process. The public survey represents an important step in ensuring that a broad range of voices helps shape the library’s future.
Our goal is to ensure that the library reflects the diverse needs and aspirations of Castine — year-round and seasonal residents alike. We want to hear from families, students, Maine Maritime Academy community members, local organizations, whether you have never stopped by or are a regular visitor.
We are aiming for an ambitious 20% participation rate from the community. As an incentive, participants who provide their email will be included in a prize drawing for gift certificates of $25 to Compass Rose and the Auxford Market.
The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and is anonymous. Responses will be summarized and used to develop measurable goals and priorities for 2026–2030.
