Storm Closing Policy

When appropriate, Witherle Memorial Library will follow the Adams School for any closings or delayed openings.

  a. If the Adams School delays opening to 10 A.M. or earlier, the library will open as usual at 10 A.M.

  b. If School Union 93 cancels all after school activities, all after school library programs will be canceled.

Closing the library will be at the discretion of the Library Director, or the designated staff member in the Director’s absence, when school is not in session.

The Director will follow the following protocol when closing the library:

  a. Inform all Witherle Staff of closure or delayed opening.

  b. Inform the Chair of the Board of Trustees of closure.

  c. Notify Town Office staff of closure in order to send out a town wide text notification.

  d. Direct appropriate staff to post closure on the library website.

  e. Switch to Call Flow 2 in Nextiva account and change voicemail greeting to Witherle Closed Due to Weather.

  f. Post on the Library Instagram and Facebook pages and share in appropriate Castine Facebook Groups.

  g. The day following closure, switch back to Call Flow 1 in Nextiva account and change voicemail greeting back to Witherle Voicemail.

  h. In the event of the Director’s absence, the Director will designate a member of library staff to follow the above protocol.
