On Exhibit in the Rotunda: Undersea Treasures from the Collection of Kenny Eaton

In the 1970’s, Kenny Eaton dragged for scallops in Castine Harbor.

The endeavor produced not only scallops but brought up all manner of bottles such as ink, medicine (some with medicine inside!), perfume, and liquor. Large pottery jugs, tea jars and even old-time shaving sticks came up, too.

One wonders how each of these artifacts came to rest at the bottom of the Harbor. Thanks to Kenny’s efforts, they now see the light of day and comprise this collection’s unusual view into Castine’s history.

On display during regular library hours through March.
