Welcome to the opening of the 41School Street Gallery located in the Witherle Children’s Room at the top of the stairs. The goal of the gallery is to foster and display the creative and artistic talents of young patrons. Artwork could take the form of photographs, watercolor, acrylic, weaving, fabric, collage or other modes of expression. To find out more about how to participate please see Ms. Orado.
The inaugural display features the photography of Olivia Settles.
Olivia Settles is a student, photographer, and artist. Born in Seattle, she moved to Maine at age ten and currently is in the 5th Grade at the Adams School in Castine.
Olivia’s interest in photography began in late Autumn 2024. She uses a Samsung mobile phone camera with a zoom capability of x50.
Recently, Olivia took several photos of the moon. She was thrilled with the results, and her parents encouraged her to keep photographing. She takes her pictures “whenever the moon is in a good spot.” Her images beautifully represent Maine in winter. Some frame the moon and sky in unique ways, while others place the moon in the distance and ice-covered branches or clouds in the foreground.
Olivia plans a new series of photos of ocean sunsets at the Backshore Beach and later from a sailboat.
Her photographs are on display during regular library hours through January 31. A reception is planned for Friday, January 24 at 12:15. All are welcome to attend.
