DESCRIPTION:The Castine Garden Club presents Coast of Maine Organics founde
 r Carlos Quijano.  Co-sponsored by Witherle Library. Refreshments will be
  served\, and all are welcome.\n\n\nCarlos and Jean Quijano started Coast 
 of Maine in 1996—six years before USDA organic certification standards w
 ere set. The couple’s vision for working with—not on—the land came t
 o them naturally as avid gardeners living on Maine’s coast.\n\n\n\n\nThe
  Quijanos had the insight to realize that the discarded things others deem
 ed refuse were really the rich\, time-tested secret to nurturing healthy a
 nd enduring growth. They harvested everything from lobster and mussel s
 hells to fish bones and berries\, employing the skills that could put 
 these natural gifts right back to work in the earth where they belonged.\n
 \n\n\n\nAs the company Carlos and Jean nurtured flourished\, so did its kn
 owledge of the regenerative practices they pioneered. Today\, Coast of Mai
