 lson Museum\n\nABOUT THE PLAY\nTracy Letts' "The Minutes" premiered at Ste
 ppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago (where Letts is a longtime ensemble me
 mber) on November 9\, 2017. The play was a Pulitzer Prize finalist.\nIn "T
 he Minutes\," Tracy Letts’s scathing comedy about small-town politics an
 d real-world power\, the writer who brought you "August: Osage County" ex
 poses the ugliness behind some of our most closely held American narrative
 s while asking each of us what we would do to keep from becoming history
 ’s losers. (Steppenwolf Theatre)\nTracy Letts is a Pulitzer Prize and T
 ony Award-winning playwright\, actor\, and ensemble member of the Steppenw
 olf Theatre Company. He is the author of plays "Linda Vista\," "Mary Page 
 Marlowe\," "The Scavenger’s Daughter\," "Superior Donuts\," "August: Osa
 ge County"(Pulitzer Prize\, Tony Award)\, "Man from Nebraska" (Pulitzer Pr
 ize finalist)\, "Bug\," and "Killer Joe." Also an actor\, he received the 
 2013 Tony Award for Best Actor in Edward Albee’s "Who’s Afraid of Virg
 inia Woolf?" TV and film credits include "Lady Bird\," "The Lovers\," "Chr

 o seasons as Senator Lockhart on Showtime’s "Homeland."\nCHARACTER DESCR
 IPTIONS\nPlease Note: Actors of any race or ethnicity are welcome in all r
 oles. Gender-blind casting will be utilized for all roles. Ages in the cha
 racter descriptions are rough ideas as opposed to requirements. They also 
 reflect the age of the character\, not the required age of the actor.\n\n\
 n 	Mr. Peel (25-35) - The newest council member and a newcomer to town. As
  close to a protagonist as there is in the show. Curious\, determined\, an
 d a bit headstrong.\n 	Mayor Superba (50-60) - The mayor and head of the c
 ity council. A warm and welcoming presence with a firm grasp and control o
 f the team. He knows how to play the game. Authoritative\, folksy\, and se
 lf-righteous\n 	Ms. Johnson (30-40) - The city clerk responsible for maint
 aining minutes of every detail of every meeting. Cautious\, meticulous\, a
 nd assertive\n 	Mr. Blake (40s-60s) - A council member who can talk the ta
 lk\, often motivated by what serves him best. Smooth\, outlandish\, and ca
 lculating\n 	Mr. Hanratty (mid 30s-50s) - A council member that looks out 
 for what will help the town the most\, often trying and failing. Well inte
 ntioned\, verbose\, and passionate\n 	Mr. Breeding (40s-60s) - A council m
 ember closely aligned with Mayor Superba. Opinionated\, self-aggrandizing\
 , and dismissive\n 	Mr. Assalone (40s-60s) - Mayor Superba’s other major
  ally on the council. Aggressive\, confrontational and a bully\n 	Ms. Inne
 s (60+) - The second-longest-serving member of the council. Focuses only o
 n her agenda items.\n 	Ms. Matz (35-45) - A flighty and distracted member 
 of the council that struggles to complete her actionable items. Unaware\, 
 erratic\, and in her head\n 	Mr. Oldfield (65+) - The longest-serving memb
 er of the council with a bit of a temper. He often finds himself rambling 
 over minute details. Testy\, long-winded\, and constant\n 	Mr. Carp (40s-6
 0s) - Missing for much of the play\, a council member that is seemingly mi
 ssing. Truthful\, well-intentioned\, and diligent.\n\n \n
